Studies have shown that the moisture content and cure time of bentonitic clays added with sodium carbonate directly influence the rheology of dispersions in aqueous media. The rheological properties of bentonitic clays are also influenced by their cation exchange capacity. Thus, this work aims to analyze the influence of moisture variation and curing time on the cation exchange of bentonitic clays, after a hydrocyclone purification process. The reject was added with sodium carbonate varying the moisture content and curing time. The cation exchange capacity was determined before and after the additivation process. After that, rheological and filtration tests were carried out, determining the apparent and plastic viscosities and the filtrate volume. The results allowed to conclude that, with the humidity value of 35% and cure time of 15 days, the highest values ??of cation exchange capacity and 25% humidity were found, with a cure time of 15 days for rheological and filtration results.
