09-100 | Nasser Chelouah | Chelouah, N.(Abderahmane Mira Bejaia); | The purpose of the first part of this work is to study the influence of the addition of ground date pits (GDP) with sizes below or equal to 1 mm in diameter on the technological properties of fired clay bricks. Five different clay-GDP mixes with 0, 5, 10 and 15 wt % of GDP respectively were used for making fired brick samples. All samples were fired at 900 °C. Technological properties test were conducted such as shrinkage, density, water absorption, porosity and compressive strength. As the conclusion, brick with utilization 5% of GDP is acceptable to produce good quality of fired clay bricks. The aim of the second part of this work is to establish theoretical relationships between open (OP), closed (CP) and total porosity (TP) with water absorption of fired clay brick samples. These relationships are expressed by mathematical functions – correlation functions. The results obtained showed that the mathematical functions calculated from the correlation functions between porosity and water absorption of fired clay bricks are efficient and accurate which allow the possibility of their operation for practical purposes to rapid verification directly at the brickworks. |
