They have different industrial uses, being used, for example, in the manufacture of tiles e ceramic blocks. The activated carbon can be used at the gases and liquids treatment and filtration. In view that clays are material did not renewable, in this work it was studied the influence of the addition of 5% in 5% of activated carbon in the red ceramics mass until 40%, verifying ceramic properties like: apparent porosity, water absorption, compression strength , 3-point bend strength, percentage of water for good plasticity and apparent density, following the method considered for American Society for Testing and Materials (ASMT) and the measures of resistance mechanics had been carried through with a universal testing machine. It was observed that with the addition of 5% and 10% of activated carbon the flexion strength increased and to improving the ceramic properties. In other hand, the materials analyzed with more than 10% of activated carbon had gotten some alteration in its physical and mechanical properties, not being viable to the incorporation in the ceramic mass. The activated carbon residue, when mixed the ceramic mass and sintered, degrades in carbon dioxide, and this study showed that in adequate percentages do not modify significantly the physical properties of the ceramics, then an efficient discarding for the material was gotten. In this way, the incorporation of this residue into the ceramic raw material becomes viable for red ceramics. |
