These criteria are not derived from the microstructural characteristics of the sintered samples – density or grain/pore size. In our approach, the criteria for optimization are the coefficients in the equation describing the normalized optical density. The criteria were used for manufacturing by SPS the transparent MgAl2O4 ceramics having improved optical properties (transparency 73% in the middle of the optical range) at optimal SPS modes: temperature (around 1300oC), pressure (60-75 MPa) and heating rates (25-50 oC/min). The suggested criteria were determined for representative sets of MgAl2O4 ceramic specimens manufactured by SPS. The approach is based on the previously obtained results for describing the relationship of optical properties and elastoplastic characteristics of transparent spark plasma sintered yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) ceramics [Khasanov O.L. et al., J. Ceram. Sci. Tech., 2017, V.8, p.161-168]. This work has been supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project No.17-13-01233.
