Quality evaluation of a clayey block for its use in the production of glazed ceramic tiles

09-089	Amanda Lucia Chaparro	Sanchez, J.(Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander); Florez, A.O.(Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander); Chaparro, A.L.(Universidad de Pamplona);	An analysis methodology to characterize the clays located on the clay deposits of the Guayabo geological group was used, in a sector where there is a large presence of developed stoneware technologies in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta. For this, the recognition of the mineral resources in the field was made in order to delimit the surface of the investigation, followed by the opening of nine exploratory trenches of average depths of 2 meters, where a total of 49 samples were taken, with the object to know the quality of the materials, determining its physical-ceramic properties, chemical and mineral characteristics, through the FRX and DRX tests, finally, was evaluated the rock mass to estimate its stability to the mining operations by the method of Bieniawski RMR geomechanical classification of 1989, according to the natural conditions of the deposit, the extraction of the material by open-pit method was recommended, basing the mining design on this system, the studied material was also projected to be used by the industry in the production of ceramic tiles.
