One of the most commonly investigated factors is the illumination with varying color rendering index (CRIs) to adapt different plants requirements. To meet the demands, it is necessary and urgent to develop new materials having tailorable and optimized luminescent properties. Recently, we developed a novel ceramic phosphor Eu-doped Y5Si3O12N with a unique spectral tuning property. It has shown that the emission color can be shifted from turquoise to orange just by increasing Eu concentration. A series of w-LEDs have been fabricated by combining Y5Si3O12N:Eu and Y5Si3O12N:Ce (blue) with a UV LED chip. The fabricated w-LEDs showing controllable spectra and varied CRIs (91.7-96.2) are promising candidates for applications in plan factory illumination. Through the thickness variation (0.2-1.5 mm) of YAG:Ce transparent ceramic disc assembled in blue LED chips, we also found that the emission spectrum and color coordinates of the assembled LED could be adjusted from cold white to warm white light region, that is from (x=0.30, y=0.30) to (x=0.39, y=0.51) in color coordinates. Further, YAG:Ce transparent ceramic disc showed extraordinary high temperature quenching properties, keeping almost 90% of initial emission intensity (RT) at high temperature of 200 degree of centigrade, superior to both commercial yellow phosphors and white LEDs. YAG:Ce ceramics combined to blue LED chips seems a good candidate in plan factory illumination.
