It is known that the higher the capacity of cations exchange of the clays, the greater is the number of cations they can retain and that directly benefits their rheological properties. This paper proposes to verify the influence of curing time and moisture content in the cations exchange and rheology of bentonite clay put together with sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) for use in drilling fluid base aqueous. Bentonite clays were used in the State of Paraíba, PB, Brazil. The characterization of the samples was carried out using x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence, granulometric analysis, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, cation exchange capacity and specific area. The clays were put together with Na2CO3 controlling the moisture content in 25% and 50%, and for 15, 30, 45 and 60 days of curing and again characterized. Rheological tests were carried out at a later date to determine the apparent viscosity and plasticity of bentonite clay dispersions based on standard of Petrobras. Filtration properties were also evaluated. The results showed that there was influence of moisture content and curing time on CTC of studied clays, also influencing directly on rheology and filtration results of dispersions obtained. |
