Abstract
12-007 PEDRO AUGUSTO MACHADO VITOR VITOR, P.A.(UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL); Bragança, S.R.(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul); BERGMANN, C.P.(UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL); This study investigated the sintering process of MgAl204 spinel (MA) obtained by combustion in solution. The precursors utilized were aluminum nitrate, magnesium nitrate and sucrose in water. The synthesized and calcined MA powders were uniaxially pressed and fired at different temperatures (1550-1650°C). The sintered powders were characterized by physical (bulk density, water absorption, apparent porosity and linear shrinkage), mechanical properties (flexural strength 4 points) and also the microstructure (SEM) was analyzed. The highest bulk density obtained was 3,14g/cm3, at temperature of 1650 ° C, representing a densification of 92.4%, for a linear shrinkage of 17.52%. These ceramic bodies also reached the highest flexural strength (140,9MPa) and highest elastic modulus (63,4 GPa).
