Abstract
01-073 Bruno Pacheco Henriques Henriques, B.P.(Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina); Moura, C.(Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina); Silva, F.S.(Universidade do Minho); Lasers are commonly used, in several fields, for weldings, laser engraving, laser marking, and more recently for laser freeform fabrication of components. A less usual application is the laser surface printing. In this case, if a laser source stands on a 3D motion systems, and if a filler material is added, different patterns can be drawn on a component's surface. Besides the materials specificities there are different variables to take into account when using this technique, namely: laser power, laser speed, protective environment, surface preparation, etc. This paper will introduce the most important variables of laser surface metal printing. It will also discuss on how to deal with the challenges to laser printing dissimilar materials (metals in ceramics). Examples of components thus produced will be shown.
