Industrial Synthesis and Applications of Silazane Resins and Formulations

18-064	Ralf Grottenmüller	Grottenmüller, R.(MERCK);	MERCK is the world leading manufacturer and supplier of Perhydropolysilazane and Organopolysilazanes. Perhydropolysilazane ( PHPS, -[SiH2-NH]n- ) is used as liquid precursor for SiO2, whereas Organopolysilazanes ( OPSZ, -[SiR2-NR‘]n-, R and R‘ = H, CH3, Vinyl and others ) are raw materials for SiCN ceramics and base resins for functional coatings. We describe the industrial synthesis procedures of two types of Silazanes. PHPS is synthesized in a solvent system, OPSZ in a liquid Ammonia process. Furthermore, we show details about the polymer structures and properties, as well as selected applications, such as anti-graffiti, scratch-resistance and corrosion-protection.
